Everything on this site is one architecture, not a collection of initiatives. The Evolving Science of Reading lays the foundation: literacy is a single developmental continuum, from the first phoneme to the first fully reasoned argument. Two vertical strand maps chart that continuum in detail — Reading for IMPACT (twelve pillars) and Writing for IMPACT (ten pillars), each spanning K–12. Decoding to Discourse — the forthcoming Corwin series — joins those two maps into one reciprocal model: what students decode as readers, they encode as writers, at every level of language. The 5 Engines of Literacy — Knowledge, Word, Sentence, Structure, and Argument, with Metacognition and Transfer as the spine — describe how instruction actually moves students along that continuum. And the IMPACT Framework is the classroom lens that makes the whole system observable, aligning teacher moves with visible student growth. Foundation, maps, integration, engines, lens — one coherent system, because coherence is the point.
